The Slide Library

The slide library collection has been shaped by the needs of the various departments of the Academy. As a result we have over 100,000 slides in 100 different categories that support the lectures and presentations of the instructors and the students. Slides are mainly housed in cabinets, which combine slide trays with light tables facilitating selection, and in some cases presenting the wide chronological view of artists' work. Slides are arranged by media: painting, sculpture, architecture, etc. and then by period. There are also slides that relate to specific art history texts for use by instructors only. Slides are checked out to instructors for one week and can be renewed. The limit of the slides is 160, enough for 2 carousels. Slides are checked out to students for 2 days and the limit is 10 slides.

The Video Library

The video library consists of videos and DVDs. They are chosen by the departments to be used in the classroom. Students can take them out of the library but must bring them back by the time we close the following day. The videos are checked out from the slide/video department for one week period by instructors, the DVDs are checked out for the seem length of time from the circulation desk. There is a DVD room in the library that can be used by instructors for group viewing and by students if it isn't reserved for a class. Everyone must reserve the room ahead of time.

The Picture Files

The Picture File is a collection of thousands of images arranged into categories that can be used for photo reference by the students. There is a picture file index to the location of images. This collection has been built up over the years and is continually being added to so that past decades are richly represented as well as contemporary times. The limit is 25 pieces counting as one book and the checkout period is 2 weeks.
