MFAs in Storage

Friday, May 19th, 2017

There have been a couple of questions recently about procedures for retrieving the MFA thesis projects that are in storage. The only physical MFAs that we have in the Library are from 2011 and Spring 2012. Anything after that has been digitized. Theses from 2010 and earlier are kept in a storage room on the 1st floor of 180 NM. (We have an agreement with the University to keep the projects for 10 years, though currently they go back 14 years to 2003). These are suppressed in the catalog but occasionally patrons will request to see one of them. When this happens, please transfer them to Sean to check the availability of the thesis and discuss a time to view it. Ideally, the patron will contact us before coming into the Library, as it can take some time to find the thesis. If a patron does come in and ask to see a thesis and Sean is not available, you can contact Brian or Alissa to see if they can retrieve it.

New Student Server Instructions

Thursday, April 27th, 2017

The process for connecting to student servers works a bit differently now. There are now only two servers that students use, Jupiter and Mars. Most students will be using Jupiter; Mars is only for Animation students. The main change is that they are now required to login using their LMS credentials.

To connect to the servers on the Macs:
–Go to the Finder application,
–Click on “Go” at the top of the page.
–Click on “Connect to Server” from the drop-down menu.
–Enter either smb:// or smb://
–Connect as a Registered User, enter LMS/Peoplesoft credentials
–There will be a list of departments that correspond to the classes that the student is currently enrolled in, MPT, ARH, etc.
–Click on the department and the files should appear.

This information is also on the wiki. Computers & Electronic Resources>Computers (Student)>Student Servers.
