Contacting IT

Monday, October 14th, 2013

In addition to calling IT at their extension (6400) in order to report problems and request help, you can also email them at their new address, itservicedesk@academyart.edu. I’ve put this on the “Wireless” section of the wiki as well, since that’s usually what we have problems with anyway!

More on Wifi

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

I’ve updated the Wireless page on the Wiki.  I’ve also posted the three documents on this wiki page that are up at the Circ Desk (Screenshots for connecting with Windows 7, Mac’s and a page from IT that includes information on connecting with Android).

*UPDATE*

I have added another Troubleshooting guide to the Wiki Wireless Page - for Windows XP troubleshooting.

Update on Wireless Problems

Monday, March 19th, 2012

One of the possible reasons students are having trouble logging in, is their USERNAME should be in ALL CAPS. If the network is not accepting their username/password, you should ask them if they are entering their USERNAME as all caps. (This is only for students). Their password is case sensitive and should be entered as they always enter it.

We also now have a test username and password that we can try typing in:
username: LIBRARY
password: Research!

Try this, if this works, and the student’s username/password does not, then let them know that their password is probably incorrect.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I will be creating a document for students who are not being prompted to enter their username/password.

Wireless Network

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

There is a new wireless network in the library and the entire 180 building as well as 79 NM.  This wireless network will eventually work the same way in all of the buildings.  The wireless network name is aau.  The students will need to enter a username and password.  This username and password is the same as their username and password for the Online Academy and their Academy Email.

For faculty and staff, they should enter their username and password they use for their desktop PC’s and their email.  They do not need to enter aac/ before their username.  For example, for me it would just be hgatto and my password I use for email or logging into the PC’s.

If someone does not know their username or password they can go to this page (on a computer connected to the network) https://sss.academyart.edu/psp/AAUP1PP/STUDENT/ENTP/h/?tab=DEFAULT.  You would then click the “have your password reset and emailed to you” link or call the Self Service Hotline.  If you click the have your password and reset and emailed to you link, you will be prompted to enter your student id number and your email address.

*** You must use an email address that you have already provided to the
school. Do not use your student or faculty email as this password will also
be reset and you will be unable to retrieve your new password.

So, it may be better to just call the hotline to find out what their username is.

If you have questions you can contact me.

Changes to Wireless Network!!!

Monday, October 10th, 2011

IT has changed our wireless network, so that we no longer have to log in through the browser!!  Now, when you first connect to the wireless network “Library” you will be prompted to enter a password.  The password is iloveart! .  I am working on making new signs to post in the library, but if anyone asks for the password it is iloveart!, there is no username.

This should hopefully work a lot better now!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Library Website on the Wireless Network

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

There was an issue with the wireless network, where if someone tried to go to library.academyart.edu it would actually take them to the Future Media Architects website.  This is now fixed.  Please let me (Holly) know if you see this or anything like this happen again.  If a student is still having trouble accessing the library website, first have them try resetting their cache and try again.  If they continue to have problems after that, let me know right away.

If you have any questions about this, let me know.

Another Wireless Troubleshooting Tip

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

If the student is connected to the Wireless network, but the login page (https://1.1.1.1/login.html) is not loading or if the student types in the username and password but it just takes them to the same login page, you can try resetting the cache.

In Safari go to History | Clear History

In Firefox go to Tools | Clear Recent History

This has worked for at least one student (on a Mac) - after she rebooted and cleared her history it started working.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Wireless in the Library

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

I have been contacting IT and MacHelp with all of the problems we have been having with the wireless network in the library.  Today it seems as though no one with a Mac laptop can connect.  John from MacHelp came up and showed me one troubleshooting thing we can try.  What is happening is that when the computer connects to the wireless sometimes the student hasn’t received an IP address before they open their browser.  If this happens the login screen cannot be loaded.

To see if this is the problem have the student open their System Preferences and click Network, on the top right it should say Connected Airport is connected to 180NMLibrary and has the IP address 10.10.X.X.

If there is no IP address or if the IP address does not start with 10.10 then click the Advanced button and then the TCP/IP tab.  Click the Renew DHCP Lease button - this should force the wireless network to assign the laptop with an IP address.

If they are not connecting to the login page, and it says that they have an IP address you can still try to reset the IP address by clicking the Renew DHCP Lease button and maybe they will then be able to connect.

Let me know if you have any questions.

If you want to see this process, I can show you on my computer in my office.

Wi-Fi issues.

Friday, February 5th, 2010

So we have a new issue with our Wi-Fi.  When students (particularly students who own Macs) get to the login page and hit submit, it may reload the login page.  In other words, when they put in user name and password and hit submit, all it does is refresh the same page.  According to IT, the login goes through, but in order for students to actually browse, they would have to open a new tab or window to surf the web.  Just a heads up for the weekend crew in case this doesn’t get fixed soon.

New Wireless Network Name - Starting 11/17!

Monday, November 16th, 2009

The IT department came by en masse Monday afternoon to put in our new wireless equipment. They are going to start up all the new stuff tonight after we’re closed, so we won’t see any changes until Tuesday morning. Besides the good changes, like more people being able to log in at once, there’s one more big change:
The wireless network will now be named “180NMLibrary” instead of “AAULibrary.” Username (aaustudent) and password (student) are remaining the same.

I’ll be putting up some signs tomorrow morning alerting students that this has been updated!
