New database: EBSCO Art Source

Friday, March 1st, 2013

Continuing in the vein of exciting database news, I would like to introduce everyone to EBSCO Art Source! Art Source is a new product from EBSCO that includes everything from Art Full Text as well as additional material from Art and Architecture Complete, which makes this a really great resource for our patrons! It’s got over 630 full-text journals and 220 full-text books. This database is replacing EBSCO Art Full Text, and all links on our website have been changed to reflect this switch.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this new resource!

Changes to EBSCO

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

I met with our EBSCO Sales Rep yesterday and she gave me a few suggestions for changing some of our EBSCO settings.

If you go into EBSCO now, all you will see is a search box, on the Basic Search screen. Before the Search Options were displayed below the search box. If you would like to see the Search Options, click the Search Options link below the Search Box. I think this looks cleaner and will be less confusing to our students - it make the interface simpler and more like Google.

Also, now when you do a search the Full Text box is automatically checked, so all of your results should be Full Text results. To uncheck this, click the Search Options link and uncheck the Full Text checkbox.

On the results page, the Subject List on the Left Panel is now opened, so that you can see your Subject options for modifying the search.

I’ve also added some links to Video Tutorials for using EBSCO on both the Online Resources page and the Library Tutorials page. You can find additional video tutorials on EBSCO here: http://support.ebsco.com/training/tutorials.php. If you find any other tutorials that you think we should link to, let me know and I will add a link to the Library Tutorials page.

Let me know if you have any questions.

IMDb Pro Accounts

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Just a reminder.  Please do not give out the Library’s IMDb Pro Username and Password to students or Faculty.  The “aaulibrary” account is our administrator’s account and I use it to assign Faculty and students with personal accounts.  If you have any questions about assigning IMDb Pro Accounts contact Audrey.

Also, Audrey is taking over assigning IMDb Pro Accounts, so if you have a student or faculty member that requests an account, just tell them to email Audrey (aferrie@academyart.edu), and she will set them up.
Thank you.

WWD unavailable

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

UPDATE 2 (2/2/2012):

WWD should be working, but you may see a Server Error message after clicking Step 1 and Step 2.  If you click the GO TO THE HOMEPAGE link, it should work.

See this page, for more information.
UPDATE (2/1/2012):

WWD Seems to be working intermittently now.  Sometimes it takes me through to the site and appears to be working fine.  But I tried it a few more times and received a Server Error after I clicked the Step Two button.

I will keep updating as I know more.

Original Post:
WWD is currently not working. When you click the link and then click the Step 1 button, it says that the IP Address is invalid. I am working with WWD to have this fixed as soon as possible. I am hoping it will be fixed before Monday. If any students or instructors ask about it, you can say that we know about the problem and that we hope it will be fixed soon. We have no ETA on it being fixed at this point, but I will update this post as I know more.

WWD articles are available through Proquest. To get there, go to this page:
http://elmo.academyart.edu/find-resources/magazines.php?magid=365

And click the link that says Browse or Search Fulltext Articles (ProQuest). This is a few weeks delayed. Currently the most recent issue available is from January 6.

From the above link you can either Search through WWD or click the Year, and then month, and then issue to see all the articles for that issue.

If it does not look like WWD will be fixed prior to Monday, I will post these instructions to the website, so that students know how they can access issues of WWD.

Please ask Holly if you have any questions. I will post more, as I know more. Currently WWD thinks everything is working, so this may take some time.

WWD is working again

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

WWD should be working again.  Let me know if you have any questions or if you can’t access WWD.

WWD is down

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Due to a billing issue, the WWD database isn’t available right now, and unfortunately this issue probably won’t be resolved until Monday or Tuesday. The good news, though, is that all WWD articles are available through ProQuest, so people needing to access them online can do so that way. Also, if people are here in the library, we do keep the past three months of the print publication up at the Circ Desk. If people ask you about WWD before it’s back up, please alert them to these alternatives. Thanks!

WWD is now Working!

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

WWD is now working.  Please let me know if you see anything strange or anything that isn’t working, as I can pass that info onto WWD.

When you click the link from the Online Articles and Reference page, you will be taken to an intermediary page on WWD’s website.  You click the blue button that says Step 1, and then the blue button that says Step 2, and then you will be redirected to WWD.com.

Let me know if you have any questions.

ProQuest problems

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

We have been seeing a few problems with ProQuest (when we attempt to do a search, it brings up an error message), and Holly has determined that this is something to do with the cookies on the computer. Mmm, cookies! So if you are using Firefox and are receiving an error message when you try to do a search in ProQuest, go to:

Tools -> Clear private data -> Check the options for both Cache and Cookies -> Clear Private Data Now.

Once this is done, you should be able to successfully use ProQuest.

Alas, Corbis!

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Some of you may have heard vague rumors, and sadly, they are true - Corbis is no more. They didn’t notify us, so we weren’t really able to notify patrons or prepare any ready alternatives. However, now that we know what’s going on, Holly and Hope are hard at work evaluating possible new image databases, and we’ll have one soon. In the meantime, remind patrons about the great digital image resources we still have!

New WGSN Pin Number

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

Please distribute the following PIN number to the students inquiring about access to WGSN:

0425CLLA

For students that already have a username and password, please ask them to visit the WGSN-edu website - www.wgsn-edu.com - and click PIN update (a link in the left-hand column of the home page). They need to input this PIN, type in their old user name and password then check that the details on the registration form that appears are correct. They then need to choose a new password, resubmit the form and a new username will be emailed to them.

Students have three weeks to complete this process, after which all the current usernames will be switched off.

Students who have never had a username and password before can register for the first time with this PIN, by following the procedure above but leaving the old username and password boxes blank and filling in the registration form in full.

Any problems or questions should be directed to Melissa Lai in the Fashion Department Office on the 7th floor.
