New MFA checkout procedure

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

Hey everyone

Ida just had barcodes added to all of the MFA’s - this is an attempt to halt the materials theft/loss problem.

From now on, please CHECK OUT every MFA project. Then, as usual, keep the patrons’ ID card with the cards from the MFA box. Please remind the patron that the items are library use only and can not be copied. When the items are returned, PLEASE MAKE SURE they are checked in, and quickly check to make sure a DVD, CD-ROM, or whatever digital media are listed on the side of the box are actually there.
Thanks,
Ryan

New Database - Oxford Reference Online

Friday, March 17th, 2006

Hi,

We have a new resource on our databases page - Oxford Reference Online. This is what they are all about:

Oxford Reference Online brings together language and subject reference works from one of the world’s biggest reference publishers into a single cross-searchable resource.

The Core Collection contains over 100 dictionary, language reference, and subject reference works published by Oxford University Press. It is a fully-indexed, cross-searchable database of these books, giving subscribers unprecedented access to a comprehensive information resource.

The Premium Collection offers all of the above, plus added functionality and more detailed information across a broad subject range from titles in the world-renowned Oxford Companions Series, to enhance the coverage already provided by the award-winning Core Collection.

This is a great site with a wealth of exciting and informative content. Great for all kinds of general reference. Check it out!

Copiers & Such

Friday, March 17th, 2006

Hi everyone,

I know you’re all feeling frustrated with the dismal state of our electronic equipment and I want to let you know that we’re working hard to improve things. We’re in the process of making some permanent changes to the student copiers that will hopefully keep them from jamming every two minutes, and we’re also close to getting a service technician to come fix the copy card machines so you won’t have to keep encoding the cards yourself. We even have a tech coming to look at the student printer. So, even though things are difficult right now, I want you to know that it won’t be forever and that we really appreciate you hanging in there during all of this.

John, Kerri, and Ryan
