Heather Stenson! (Wild applause here). Get your classic cinema/film noir fix with Laura, starring Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb and Vincent Price. Directed by Otto Preminger, it’s the story of a police detective who falls in love with the woman whose murder he is investigating. Creepy enough? Yes, but it is also an example of some fine filmmaking - it won an Oscar for Best Black and White Cinematography and was nominated for another four!

DVD of the Week, Back for More of Your Love…

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Hi all,

Our fearless leader, Debra, has the honors this week! She suggests checking out A Collection of 2007 Academy Award Nominated Short Films since short films get overlooked all the time, and with today’s short attention span why not indulge it with some great shorts! And did you know we have an entire collection of short films? NO??? Well then, just click on the “Short” link that appears as a Genre choice when searching under “Movies” in our catalog’s Subject Guide if you dare: http://elmo.academyart.edu/guides/vid_dvd.html.

Stay short,

Abby

DVD of the Week - Still Going Strong!

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Hello everyone,

Mary Ellen has selected this week’s pick, Spirited Away, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Even if animated features are normally not your cup of tea, give this one a try! It is an endearing finding-one’s-path movie, considered to be one of Miyazaki’s masterpieces.

Happy viewing!
