Sculpture pickup

Sometime this next week, a sculpture faculty member named David Whippen will be picking up a sculpture that was displayed in the library a few years back. This sculpture is cleverly contained within a suitcase! I put it back behind the Circ Desk, and he knows to ask there when he comes to retrieve it. Thanks!

Exhibition Catalogs

Hi Saturday crew,

We made significant progress on stickering the exhibition catalogs today and I would appreciate you continuing the effort! Today we put them on carts and stickered them at the front desk and then moved them to the shelf. If that seems to work for you great, otherwise you can sticker them in the page room and then move them out to the shelf. We may run out of the clear stickers we are using to cover the green exhibition sticker. If that happens you can continue to put the green stickers on, but leave the catalogs in the page room so we know they still need the clear sticker. Abby has ordered more of the clear stickers so they should be here soon. Thanks for all of your effort on this and as usual, if you have questions, feel free to call me on my cell.

Shelf Shifting

Debra would like us to only leave 4-6 inches of space at the end of each shelf (rather than 6-12) so that we can maximize the number of shelves freed.

Clear Labels for Exhibition Catalog Stickers

Hi everyone,

I am putting three sizes of clear spine labels up front to be included with the stickering process of the Exhibition Catalogs. The idea is that you always want to have a clear label on top of the green sticker to keep it looking nice and staying put!

Please use the size label that works best for wrapping around the spine at least 1/2 an inch onto each cover. This is because if it just makes it around the spine, there will be a lot of curling and yuckiness will ensue. BUT! If the spine is very wide (a good way to tell is if the largest/longest spine label will not wrap around!), please just use the smallest/shortest label and center it over the green label.

One last thing: funky cloth covers and the clear spine labels do not get along! They reject sticking every time, so please use a piece of clear book processing tape instead.

Hi everyone,

The exhibition catalog stickers are here and ready to be put on the spines of all the exhibition catalogs! They are going to be placed right above the call number sticker on the spine. Shelf shifting is a priority as we need to make space for these items, but you can start stickering as well. If you need a break from shelf shifting, sticker, and if you need a break from stickering, shelf shift. The stickers will live where the list for the exhibition catalog was, on the back desk of the Circulation Desk.

We’ve finally finished pulling the exhibition catalogs - hooray! As we discussed in the meeting, the next step in this project is for us to start shifting books in order to free up the row of shelves that face the Quiet Study side of the library. Jimmy and I began that process today, and got as far as the end of the first row of shelves (approx. A-H). When you’re moving the books, keep in mind that we will be getting many books back at the end of the semester, but we’ll also be pulling nearly 2,000 books to put into page. So leave space at the end of each row - somewhere between 6 and 12 inches. It’s a lot of work, so take turns and make sure to protect your back!

Reminder: Due date = August 5!

I just want to remind everyone that from here on out, the due date for all two week checkouts is August 5, the last day of the summer semester. Please be reminding patrons of this as well! When you tell a patron that their items are due on August 5, emphasize to them that August 5 is the last day of the semester. Hopefully this association will remind them to return their books on time…

New Exhibition Catalog staging area

The page room is officially filled up! So, for the rest of the exhibition catalogs, we have blocked off the corner of the library next to the copiers and Holly and Hope’s office and set up some folding tables. As always, keep the books in call number order, and leave the list (with your name on it!) at the end of the call number set it represents. Thanks for all of your hard work on this project!
