Library Public Use Policy

The mission of the Academy of Art University Library is to support the students and faculty of the University. The library is not open for general interest or browsing, although individuals from the public with a legitimate research interest may request temporary access to our reference collection.

All Requests must be submitted through the Guest Researcher Application for the library director to review. Applications may be submitted electronically or guest researchers may print and fill out this form. Completed forms may be left at the security desk at 180 New Montgomery or mailed to:

Requestors will be notified in writing of our decision within 10 days.

If approved, the user will be required to sign-in at the Security Desk upon arrival and sign out upon leaving the building. Guest library users will not be given borrowing privileges under any circumstances, and are subject to all additional library use policies. Due to library staffing patterns, public access to the library will only be permitted during the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. The library will be closed to the public in between semesters, and during inter-session periods.

During high usage period, the library reserves the right to limit public access to certain materials, such as videos and DVDs, Reference books and Course Reserve Items to students and faculty.
