•Luna Insight is software that allows you to search digital image collections

•It allows you to create dynamic visual presentations that are ideal for classroom and research use

•Its unique presentation features allow for zooming in and cropping of high-resolution images during a presentation as well as the ability to annotate and add Web-linked content

•Images may also be exported for use in other presentation software, such as PowerPoint, KeyNote or as HTML files

Luna Insight software and digital image collections hosted on the Academy of Art University library site are available for use by currently enrolled students and faculty. Certain collections are available for use by the general public through the Luna Insight Browser.

•Students can perform advanced assignments outside of class, drawing from large reserves of digital images for individual projects

•Class time is more productive since students have access to the images and presentations both before and after lecture

•Creating digital presentations in Insight allows faculty to show multiple images side-by-side, show details of images with zooming, linking images to external support websites, adding notes and commentary and more.

•Luna Insight content can be integrated with faculty Websites and Online course support software

•Creating presentations in Luna Insight saves a great deal of time each semester by simply editing and reusing existing presentations as opposed to starting from scratch from semester to semester, lecture to lecture

•With digital images, quality is not predetermined by slide projectors or displays. 35mm slides have become the standard for teaching because the only device to show them is the slide projector. Since Luna Insight provides the ability to deliver & zoom at high resolutions, images of any size - created from 4x5 transparencies or direct digital capture, for instance - are just as practical and easy to use as a slide. There is no longer a ceiling on image quality with Luna Insight.

•Luna Insight's interface design is based upon years of research, experience, and collaboration on how people actually use reproductions in research and teaching

•Luna Insight has completely reproduced the act of working directly with reproductions. Users can view multiple images on their screen, and arrange them in any order, and place them in any position.

•Details not visible to the naked eye become clearly distinguishable

•Luna Insight supports searching across collections that have different metadata fields

To begin accessing the Academy of Art University digital collection and other collections hosted on this site, you may choose from the:

•Luna Insight Browser (viewable on our library Website)

•Insight Java client (a software application)

The Insight Browser version is the Luna database that you log into from the Academy of Art University library Website. The Academy of Art University digital collection and the AMICA Library collection are password protected.

The Browser is ideal for:
•New or occasional users of the Academy of Art University, AMICA Library, and other digital image collections.

•Searching for images for reference or for specific details.

•Instances where the Insight Java client cannot be downloaded.

•The Insight Java client is software that requires a software download and an account that requires a user name and password. The Java Client allows faculty and occasionally students to create presentations by searching multiply image collections simultaneously. Versions are available for both PC and Macintosh computers. You may request an Insight Java Client account here. Once your account is established you will be sent the link to download the Java client and instructions on how to download the software.

The Java client is ideal for:
*Frequent users of the Academy of Art University and AMICA Library digital image collections.
*Cross collection searching.

*Creating dynamic presentations using the Image Workspace Toolbar.

*Exporting presentations and images into PowerPoint, KeyNote, or as HTML files.
